Senior Honors Thesis Writing Group informational meeting

February 5, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Some of the benefits of a writing group are:
-you have a group of people who can relate to your experience;
-you have a chance to share / improve your writing before you give it to your advisor;
-you can experience writing as a process, where you revise and improve your ideas in a collaborative atmosphere;
-you have planned accountability to get work done by interim deadlines, instead of trying to produce it all as your due date approaches.
The Honors Program is interested mainly in facilitating connections between you and other thesis writers. We would likely have a large group meeting in late January, then try to match you with other writers in disciplines that are related, but potentially not the same, as the one(s) you are in. (It can actually be helpful to have your writing read by people outside your discipline because they ask questions that might not be obvious to you or your advisor.)
Once the group is formed, we would leave it up to you (the group members) to set meeting times, frequency, etc. I would provide guidelines. For instance, one common format in a four-person group would be to meet weekly, with each member’s writing discussed once per month (so you wouldn’t have to produce writing each week, but would be responsible for reading something nearly every week).
