The Washburn Observatory library was at full capacity for the first Wednesday at Washburn of 2020!
Around thirty students joined Assistant Professor Marwa Shalaby (Gender & Women’s Studies and Political Science) on the evening of February 5 to discuss Professor Shalaby’s research, ask questions about current events, and enjoy pizza and salad. Attendees included first-year students through graduating seniors from a wide variety of majors. Avalon McDonald-Lewis, President of the Honors Student Organization, shared that she appreciates the laid-back setting of Wednesdays at Washburn and found it incredibly interesting to hear about Professor Shalaby’s experiences. Professor Shalaby likewise enjoyed meeting Honors students at Wednesday at Washburn. She added, “The students were very engaged and asked important questions about the politics of the Middle East and North Africa. I look forward to meeting our students next fall, as I will be teaching a course on Gender and Politics in the Middle East.”
The L&S Honors Program and Honors Student Organization thank Professor Shalaby for sharing her time and expertise. Additional thanks go to the Departments of Gender & Women’s Studies and Political Science for helping to promote this event.
