Making Exceptions to Honors in the Major Requirements

Departmental officials who have been granted authority by the Chair (usually academic advisors) have the authority to make exceptions to Honors in the Major requirements for individual students. No approval from the L&S Honors Program is necessary for individual exceptions, but staff in the Honors Program are happy to consult on individual cases. If an exception is appropriate because the student in question has met the spirit of an individual requirement by some manner other than what is curricularly approved, the advisor can use DARSX to submit an exception request.

If exceptions are a regular occurrence or regularly being considered, the department is strongly encouraged to evaluate their standard curriculum; it would be appropriate to initiate a formal change to the Honors in the Major curriculum that can eliminate the practice of applying an exception.
