Position title: Honors Program Director and Professor of German


Sabine Gross is the Griebsch Bascom Professor of German and a faculty affiliate in Theatre Studies and Visual Culture Studies. She was born in Germany and received her Ph.D. from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Her Ph.D. work focused on the process of reading, which has remained an enduring interest. Being a faculty member at UW-Madison has allowed her to combine her passion for teaching with a broad and active research agenda. She is the recipient of a Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award, has published numerous books and articles, hosted national and international research workshops and conferences, and is fascinated by the human capacity for learning and our experience of time. She has produced and directed numerous German-language plays with UW-Madison students for acclaimed public performances and taught workshops on using theater in the language classroom.
