Honors-affiliated Programs
UW currently has three Honors-affiliated study abroad programs, which are designed with Honors students in mind and allow you to enroll directly in one or more courses that will automatically count toward Automatic Honors requirements upon their return.
Ceiba Tropical Conservation Semester: Galapagos, Andes and Amazon (Quito, Ecuador)
This spring-semester program includes intensive Spanish study, Honors-designated coursework in ecology, biology, and sustainability, and internship opportunities. Past internships have dealt with reforestation, environmental education, sea turtle monitoring, and organic farming. Visit the IAP program page and the Ceiba website for more information.
Honors at the University College Utrecht Exchange (Utrecht, The Netherlands)
Enroll directly at University College Utrecht (UCU), which offers intentionally interdisciplinary coursework in the liberal arts and sciences. UCU boasts an international student body, small classes, and individualized attention and puts you at the center of Europe. All courses taken through UCU have Automatic Honors designations.
National University of Singapore: NUS College Honors Exchange (Singapore, Singapore)
Take advantage of one of the world’s top-ranked universities and enjoy living in the heart of Asia. With this Honors Exchange, you will take at least one Honors course through the NUS College, and additional coursework will come from the university’s wide variety of general course offerings.
Fulfill Honors Requirements Abroad
Students who participate in a non-Honors study abroad program may still be able to use a course from abroad to help fulfill remaining Honors degree requirements.
- Honors in the Liberal Arts: Read our HLA Study Abroad Petition Information.
- Honors in the Major: If you wish for a study abroad course to count toward Honors in the Major, be sure to discuss whether this is possible with your major advisor as you make your plans.
- You may enroll in Senior Honors Thesis credits for an L&S major (typically 681 and 682) while studying abroad if and only if you have received permission from the L&S Honors Program’s Associate Director of Advising and Curriculum (Christine Evans) prior to departure. Such permission is rarely granted, and we encourage you to plan on completing your thesis credits while on campus in Madison.
