The Light in the Piazza: Lunch, discussion, and musical

This event has passed.

Washburn Observatory (1401 Observatory Drive)
@ 12:30 pm

Enjoy lunch and a performance of The Light in the Piazza performed by University Opera along with Professor Margaret Butler and fellow Honors Program students! The Tony Award-winning musical is about two people who travel to Italy and how their experiences affect their lives in very different ways. Over lunch before the show, you will hear a brief presentation to help contextualize the performance and you will participate in an informal discussion with Professor Butler and Honors students from Music 297 about topics such as contemporary musicals and how music and drama can work together. Bring your questions and love of music!

Professor Butler is an Associate Professor of Musicology and an affiliate of the Interdisciplinary Theatre Studies Program. Her research focuses on European opera and American musical theatre. She is working on a book that examines prima donna and celebrity culture, and she is a member of the working group on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) in the Society for Eighteenth-Century Music.
