Dan Kapust is the Judith Hicks Stiehm Professor of Political Theory in the Department of Political Science. He received a BA in Classical Languages and Literatures and a BA in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, and then his MA and PhD from the Department of Political Science at UW Madison. After spending six years as a faculty member in the Department of Political Science at the University of Georgia, he returned to Madison as a faculty member in 2011. Dan is an historian of political thought, with teaching and research interests in the late Roman Republic and the early Roman Empire, Renaissance Florence, 17th, 18th, and 19th century British thought, and 18th and 19th century American political thought. During his time at UW Madison, Dan has supervised several Honors theses, and has also taught Honors sections and regularly offers Honors optional credit in his Introduction to Political Theory course.
